Ellagic acid is a polyphenol diphenolide, which is a dimeric derivative of gallic acid. Ellagic acid is a natural polyphenol component widely existing in various soft fruits, nuts and other plant tissues. The color reaction between ellagic acid and ferric chloride is blue and yellow when exposed to sulfuric acid.
Ellagic acid has obvious inhibitory effects on chemical-induced canceration and other cancers, especially on colon, esophagus, liver, lung, tongue and skin tumors.
