Shikimic acid is found in the dry ripe fruit of Illicium verum Hook. The octagon is an evergreen tree that grows in humid, warm and semi-shaded environments, with a height of 20 meters. It is mainly distributed in the south of mainland China. Bark gray to reddish brown.
